Course Description
The 20 hour Breastfeeding Counselor Course will be covered in three sessions. It is designed for those who wish to gain foundational knowledge in the basics of breastfeeding support and lactation management. This course is intended for nurses, home visitors, doulas, community health workers and health educators. Participants must read The American Academy of Pediatrics New Mother's Guide to Breastfeeding (Rev. Edition) prior to the start of the first session. This book, along with other training materials, will be provided.

Continuing Education
Suwannee River Area Health Education Center, Inc. is a Florida Board of Nursing approved provider of continuing education. CE Broker Provider ID number: 50-1922. This program meets the requirements for up to 19.5 contact hours. This program is approved for 19 L-CERPs allocated by IBLCE. IBLCE Approval Number C2002222.

FAQ

  1. Do I need to attend all 3 days?
    Yes. Attendance and participation is required for each day to receive the certificate and continuing education credits.
  2. Do I need to have training in breastfeeding already?
    No. This is a foundation level course and a required reading is provided prior to the training to assist those with no prior experience.
  3. What is the difference between lactation educator, breastfeeding counselor, lactation counselor and peer support training courses?
